Delhi: Pollution & Solution by Mannat Malhotra

I am born and living in Delhi. Delhi being capital city of India has many attractions like, Parliament, Red Fort, India Gate, Lotus temple etc. It is also called power center of India.

But Delhi is also known for its population and pollution. I read recently that more than three crore people are living in Delhi. Such humongous number of populations is putting lot of pressure on city’s resources.

As per my observation everything in Delhi is in extreme. Summers are scorching hot; winters are chilling and rains are thundering. Delhiites suffer all kind of seasons.

Recently one more season is added in Delhi’s calendar. It is called smog season. Near to winters the farmers harvest their crop in neighboring states and burn stubble. Due to which whole of NCR get polluted and choked due to pollution and smog.

Apart from that littering is another menace from which the city suffers. People lack absolute civic sense and keep on throwing garbage, plastic bottles, and packets in streets. This garbage chokes the drainage system and cause water logging in rainy season.

I read that the thing which surrounds any place, person, thing, and nature or in simple words any living organism is called environment. the environment has two types which are ABIOTIC condition and BIOTIC conditions. Abiotic environment is the world of non-living elements e.g. land and mountains and biotic is the world of living organisms e.g. plants and animals. Unfortunately, in Delhi story both biotic and abiotic components have been badly polluted.

Reasons why we don’t have a healthy environment

The biggest problem in the modern civilization is pollution. The environment is polluted due to various reasons such as Global Warming cutting down of trees, noise pollution, water pollution.

The water bodies are polluted due to many reasons such as industrial wastes washing of utensils and clothes. The soil is being due to excessive use of pesticides and the noise pollution is caused due to unnecessary honking.
